Herb is married to the former Lorraine Romero and they have 4 children. Additionally, they have 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Herb was born in El Paso, Texas and raised in Las Cruces. He attended New Mexico State University, earning a Bachelors’ degree in Elementary Education (1970) and a Masters’ degree in K-12 School Administration (1974).
He spent 41 years in both private and public education at all levels from kindergarten to post-secondary. He spent 6 of those years as a classroom teacher and the remaining 35 as a school and district level administrator. Herb retired in 2017 after consulting on educational related matters with New Mexico charter schools.
Herb has served on a number of professional, civic, service and church related organizations over the years and currently is Past President of Serra Catholic Vocations of the Mesilla Valley and Treasurer for Hearts for Autism Board of Directors.
